Terry is a skilled and experienced business lawyer. In addition to advising clients on day-to-day matters, Terry negotiates critical contracts including business acquisitions, financing, mergers, media rights agreements, private offerings, real estate and general business transaction. Terry also creates value by advising his clients about and negotiating routine business documents like leases, sales agreements, manufacturer’s rep agreements and employment contracts. He has extensive experience in business separation matters, when business partners decide to go their separate ways. When needed, Terry is a tough litigator, with extensive experience in complex and high-value litigation.

Terry’s unique experiences includes also negotiating agreements for the Minnesota Twins, serving as attorney for feature films and owning his own radio properties. This blend of experience and expertise enables Terry to understand business issues from the business perspective and to help his clients solve problems in a practical and beneficial way. Before founding Steingart, McGrath and Moore, Terry served as senior attorney and lead negotiator for National Car Rental and in private law practice with the Minneapolis law firm of Lommen Nelson Cole & Stageberg, P.A. Since 1988, he has operated his own business, buying and selling broadcast properties.

Honors and Activities

Terry was named Attorney of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer in 2006. Only 15 lawyers in Minnesota were so honored. He was named a leading Minnesota health care attorney by Minnesota Physician in 2005. He received the President’s Award from the Minnesota State Bar Association in 2003. Terry has been named as a Super Lawyer multiple times by Minnesota Journal of Law & Politics.

Terry also volunteers his time extensively. He is a member of the Governing Council of the MSBA Sports, Media and Entertainment Law Section. He is a director of and the Minnesota Blades AAA Hockey Club. Terry recently completed terms on the school board of Our Lady of Grace School and the board of directors of the Edina Hockey Association. He has served on many boards in the past, including the Board Of Directors of the Minnesota Broadcasters Association and the Governing Council of the Minnesota State Bar Association Civil Litigation section. He has also worked with the Minnesota Conference of Chief Judges and the Minnesota District Judges Association.

Terry is a frequent lecturer and author. Recent topics include negotiation tactics, health care law, and broadcast rights agreements.
